The WAFB story on pet grooming mishaps was alarming. I am hopeful Louisiana will move forward rapidly with standards that will ensure pets receive quality care from qualified groomers. The story also featured video of my wife, Ana, a groomer at The Petz Plaza. It is important to note that she was not a party to any of the incidents of abuse reflected in the story. Indeed, Ana became a dog groomer several years ago because of her love for dogs and would never tolerate any incidents of abuse of any animals.

My wife and I had a similar issue at a groomer in Walker, LA. The place is called Diva Dogs. We brought our 8 year old blind Pomeranian, Mocha, on a Saturday for a cut and wash. I dropped Mocha off around 10am, at about 3pm (5 hours later) my wife went to pick him up. He was on the grooming table just behind the counter, she did not recognize him standing on the table. I was told that they would give the pom the "traditional" pom cut. They nearly completely shaved him. They also cut a big gash in his ear as well as cutting off all his whiskers and cutting into one of the whisker moles. There was another cut on one of his legs. Needless to say we were very upset and will never return to this place.
I hope your efforts can enact changes to protect our pets from these scams.
Thanks
Brad B

I took my dog to PetCo in Denham Springs twice for a bath and toenail clip. The groomers there work behind glass windows so that everyone can see them. That eased my mind a bit before the 1st time I dropped him off. However, when I picked him up I observed the groomers handling other dogs VERY roughly and speaking harshly to them. I inquired of it and their response was that those two young girl groomers were new but they would be reprimanded and the situation would not happen again. The young man behind the counter was quite nice and gentle with the dogs. The second time I brought my dog, I walked in and observed two different girls treating the dogs even worse. Needless to say, I did not leave my pooch there that day. My dog is like my child and PetCo is like a bully. I have no way of knowing for sure how my dog was treated when I left the building, but you can be sure that I will NEVER leave him there again.

I took my puppy to Petropolian in Baton Rouge. The first time I took her they did a wonderful job. The second time my husband took her and told them what to do. When I got home I looked at her and it looked liked she wasn't even groomed. Her nails didn't even looked like they were clipped, her fur looked like it wasn't even trimmed. It looked like she was only trimmed around her eyes. I took her back for a third time and complained and told them exactly how I wanted her fur cut and she still came back not looking like she was groomed. I'm in the process of looking for someone else who will groom her the way I wanted her groomed.

I have also used Diva Dog Grooming in Walker and they are great! I have two Morkies and they make them adorable. I have never had them cut them too short or shave their whiskers. There is a place also in Walker that is horrible. She is an independent groomer out of her home and when I took my dog to her, she shaved him, he had cuts all over his feet and mouth. The poor thing was miserable for days and depressed.
